As anchoring experts, Geotech was engaged by Goulburn-Murray Water to undertake the visual and physical testing of all post-tensioned anchors in five dams across Victoria. The aim was to validate anchor quality, confirm conformance with design life, and meet dam safety requirements. The 227 tested anchors ranged from PT bar anchors of various sizes from 32mm to 56mm ,as well as 15.2mm strand anchors ranging from 8-strand to 27-strand. Geotech was required to design and construct access systems in order to undertake inspections and testing. These access systems provide safe access to each anchor without affecting the dam’s operational requirements.

Key Achievements

Geotech delivered the works on time and on budget, despite impacts due to weather, as a result of the innovative access systems designed fabricated and installed by the company at each of the dam sites. Due to the age of some of the structures, insufficient available data complicated some tasks. Geotech therefore liaised proactively with various contractors and used innovative design techniques to complete the works and also fill in the missing information.
