A component of Victoria’s Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP) is to remove the state’s 50 most dangerous road and rail interfaces.
This project involved the lowering of the Glen Waverley line beneath Burke Road as a priority element of the Greater North package of level crossing removals.
The battered cut extended several hundred metres on the western or city side of Burke Road. Gardiner Station was then reconstructed at the lower level. With on and off ramps to the M1 Freeway immediately north of this level crossing removal, the traffic flows along Burke Road, including trams, have been improved greatly.
Drill and install 2400 No. soil nails totalling >11,000 lin m of nails.
More than 50% of the nailing works were completed in a single seven-day occupation, working 24 hours a day.
