A gated dam is built to enable the dam operator to have some control over the release of water. Once a gated dam reaches its Full Supply Level, the dam operator can control the release of water over the spillway using specially designed gates. These gated systems require maintenance or upgrades in order to meet current design requirements.
Gate systems are also designed and installed into existing un-gated structures as a means for the existing structures to meet current design requirements.
