Typically adopted as economical settlement controlling elements, CMC/Rigid Inclusions are installed with specialist high-torque rotary CFA plant with tooling featuring a displacement head to laterally displace the soil rather than extract it.
As a ground improvement technique (rather than structural pile element) CMCs are installed on a regular grid improving the in situ shear strength / moduli of the natural soils. The technique generates minimal spoil, making it a viable option for brownfield and contaminated sites. As settlement controlling elements, their common applications include the construction of new embankments, low-rise buildings, warehouses and civil infrastructure.
