A component of Victoria’s Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP) is to remove the state’s 50 most dangerous road and rail interfaces.
The Greater North series of grade separations comprised level crossing removals at North Rd, McKinnon Rd and Centre Rd along the Frankston line. Through this project new railway stations were constructed at Ormond, McKinnon and Bentleigh.
Fully piled retention to the sides of the newly created channel enabled all of the rail infrastructure to be lowered beneath the surrounding streetscape, which proved to be very popular with local residents. Managing the crossing of the new lowered alignment by the Elster Creek Drain and maintaining access to the famous Sunday morning Bentleigh Market were unique challenges for the project and local community.
Geotech was awarded the contract for the construction of continuous flight auger (CFA) soldier, bridge foundation piles and station concourse piles across a series of five major planned occupations.
Geotech also completed a substantial anchoring package featuring temporary and permanent ground anchors installed in very challenging conditions. During the main shutdown, Geotech provided teams of steel fixers and shotcreters to complete works to the exposed pile walls.
